Boxing superstar and 6-time World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather and welterweight mega-star, five-time World Champion and current WBA Welterweight World Champion Sugar Shane Mosley, are set to meet on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada in a spectacular bout which will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View (PPV) starting at 9PM ET/6PM PT. The fight will be at Welterweight limit 147 pounds.
The showdown between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (40-0, 25 KO’s) and Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KO’s), billed as “WHO R U PICKING?“, is promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions, and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T, Dewalt Tools and StubHub, promises to be a spectacular display of talent and skill with Mayweather and Mosley will meet in a 12-round welterweight battle that is already being compared to other great and historic welterweight match-ups like Sugar Ray Leonard against Tommy Hearns and Oscar de la Hoya against Felix Trinidad.

Floyd Mayweather vs Shane Mosley is a battle of two of the top three fighters in boxing’s welterweight division rankings and two of the top 10 pound-for-pound boxers in the world. This match-up features two men in a highly intriguing match-up that is a suitable replacement to Pacquiao vs Mayweather. The two have missed fighting each other at several occasions as both men have turned down the fight in the past.
This fight certainly does not have the luster of a Mayweather vs Pacquiao bout, however, that’s a fight that could still be lurking in the upcoming months if Mayweather scores a win. Mosley of course was the odd man out of the Pacquiao vs Mayweather talks, and would still love to land a big payday against the Filipino sensation if he scores the upset and removes the 0(zero) from Mayweather’s record.
Sugar Shane Mosley has nothing to lose from this bout. He is enjoying a second or perhaps third wind to his career after most thought he was finished being a top-level fighter. If he loses to Mayweather, he joins a long list of other big name fighters to have done the same and he does so at a time when he was expected to.

A win and he remains in the discussion as being the best fighter of his generation as he is not really convinced that Pacquiao is the best fighter of all time, and that fight with Manny Pacquiao just may come off. But a loss does nothing but confirm the mumbles of bewildered fans who say Mayweather has avoided top competition and tough challenges throughout the duration of his career.
Mayweather enters the bout with an unblemished 40-0, 25KO record. Of course, Mayweather will be the favorite against Mosley, but Shane has the stamina and condition that will make the fight far from entertaining that his 12 rounds against Juan Manuel Marquez were.
Mosley holding a 46-5, 35KO record, is big and strong and is used to fighting bigger men as well. Mosley is fast, although not quite the dazzling speedster he was years ago. Mosley has power, most recently applying a dose of boxing come-uppance to Antonio Margarito following his illegal hand wrapping faux pas. Additionally, Mosley has an iron chin, and should not be easily deterred by Mayweather’s shots.
