The 2010 FIFA World Cup will be the 19th FIFA World Cup, the premier international football tournament. It is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 11 July 2010 in South Africa.

This will be the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation, after South Africa defeated Morocco and Egypt in an all-African bidding process.  Italy are the defending champions, after winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

In the Opening Ceremony, the official song of the FIFA world cup “Waka Waka” will be presented by the Colombian singer Shakira and the band Freshlyground from South Africa, and will be sung in both English and Spanish. The song is based upon a traditional African soldiers’ song named Zangalewa. Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the song at the pre-tournament Kick-Off concert in Soweto on June 10. It will also be sung at the opening ceremony and at the final or closing ceremony on July 11.
