Eastern conference’s No. 2 seed Orlando Magic will face No. 4 seed Boston Celtics for the 2010 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals.

Last year 2009, Orlando Magic won game seven in Boston to clinch the 2009 East Finals and there was talk that the Celtics were too old to win another title. However, the Celtics were missing Kevin Garnett, the 2008 Defensive Player of the Year, whose return to high-caliber play has spearheaded the Celts to beat the Cavs 4-2 and advances to the conference finals.

After averaging 14.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg, missing 13 games, and playing only 30 mpg while recovering from a right knee injury in the regular season, Garnett is averaging 17.6 ppg, 8.3 rpg and 35 mpg in the playoffs. The 33-year-old’s play in game six was incredible as he scored 22 points, grabbed 12 rebounds in 37 minutes. Also, with the emergence of Rajon Rondo is another new twist in this budding rivalry. Rondo leads all playoff participants with 11.1 apg, and his 18.0 ppg in the postseason tops Boston’s star-studded roster.

The Orlando Magic made some key changes, too. Vince Carter, an eight-time All-Star, arrived via trade and the team also added Matt Barnes, Jason Williams, and Brandon Bass

GAME 1 UPDATE: Ray Allen scored 25 points, Paul Pierce had 22 and the Boston Celtics used smothering defense to beat the Magic 92-88 but not with a late furious comeback by the Magic on Sunday in the Eastern Conference finals opener. Rasheed Wallace added 13 points for the Celtics that built a 20-point lead, then held on late to snap Orlando’s 14-game winning streak. Vince Carter had 23 points and Jameer Nelson finished with 20 for Orlando, which cut the lead to two in the final seconds but simply ran out of time, looking rusty after a six-day layoff. Dwight Howard was limited to 13 points and 12 rebounds, nowhere near the dominant force the Magic need to win a title.

GAME 2 UPDATE: Pierce scored 28 points, Rajon Rondo had 25 and the revived Celtics again avoided a late collapse to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference finals with a 95-92 victory over the Orlando Magic in Game 2.

GAME 3 UPDATE: Boston Celtics Backup Glen “Big Baby” Davis scored 17 points and Rajon Rondo added 11 points and 12 assists to lead the Celtics to a 94-71 victory over the Orlando Magic and a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven East finals and move within a win of reaching the NBA 2010 Finals. No NBA team has lost a playoff series after winning the first three games. The Magic have to win Game 4 on Monday night to avoid a sweep and force the series back to Orlando. They’ll need a better effort than in Game 3, when they fell behind early for the third straight game.

GAME 4 UPDATE: Jameer Nelson made back-to-back 3-pointers in overtime, Dwight Howard had 32 points and 16 rebounds, and the Orlando Magic beat the Celtics 96-92 on Monday night to avoid a four-game sweep in the Eastern Conference finals.

GAME 5 UPDATE: Not ready to go home just yet, the only place the Orlando Magic are headed is back to Boston. Halfway to history. Taking another step toward overcoming an improbable 3-0 series deficit, Dwight Howard had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Magic to a 113-92 victory over the Celtics on Wednesday night in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals. A series that looked like a sweep a few days ago now has the Celtics taking a slim 3-2 lead into a pressure-packed Game 6 in Boston on Friday night.

GAME 6 UPDATE: Boston Celtics wins series 4-2 after winning Game 6 96-84 and earn the Eastern Conference Finals Champion. Celtics advances to the NBA 2010 Finals for 2nd time in 3 years. Boston will take on the winner of Lakers-Suns West Finals Series Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals.

Pierce had 31 points and 13 rebounds, and little-used backup Nate Robinson gave the Celtics a boost with 13 second-quarter points to squelch Orlando’s attempt to be the first NBA team to come back from a 3-0 deficit in a playoff series.

Allen scored 20 points, Rajon Rondo had 14 points and six assists and Garnett, who missed the playoffs last year with a knee injury, added 10 points for Boston.

Dwight Howard scored 28 points and 12 rebounds for the defending East champions.
