FIGHT RECAP
WBA super welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs) won a hard fought twelfth round KO over former champion Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-2, 23 KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Both landed big shots in an exciting round one. Cotto fought a very controlled fight, ignoring Mayorga’s attempts to goad him into trading shots. Both fighters continued to throw big and land shots with an edge to Cotto. Mayorga had a strong round seven and looked better than he had in years. Cotto floored Mayorga in the twelfth and the fight was waved off.
