The WBO Featherweight champion Juan Manuel “JuanMa” Lopez, of Caguas, Puerto Rico, is set to defend his title against former WBC Super Bantamweight & IBF Bantamweight Champion Rafael Marquez, of Mexico City this Saturday, November 6, 2010.

Lopez vs Marquez boxing fight will be broadcast live on SHOWTIME® Boxing at 9 pm ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast) from MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.

The 12-round championship bout, originally set for September 18 (the weekend of Mexican Independence Day), had to be rescheduled after Marquez injured his right thumb when he slammed it in a car door. This is JuanMa Lopez’s second defense against Marquez.

Both Lopez and Marquez bring an exciting style of fighting into the ring. Both are two-division world champions and they boast a combined record of 68 wins with an astounding 61 knockouts, 90 percent.  The impending fight is an important crossroads fight for both men, but they are at very different points in their careers.

Also included in the fight card is the clash between Allan Green (29-2, 20 KOs) and Glen Johnson (50-14-2, 34 KOs). The winner will earn a spot in the Super Six World Boxing Classic Semifinals.

UPDATE: JuanMa Lopez retains his WBO Featherweight title by defeating Rafael Marquez via 8th round TKO. Marquez didn’t come out for the 9th round citing an injured right shoulder.

FIGHT RECAP

In a war, WBO featherweight champion Juan Manuel Lopez (29-0, 26 KOs) scored an eighth round TKO over former two-division world champion Rafael Marquez (39-6, 35 KOs) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Juanma sent Marquez staggering across the ring with a left hand in round three, but Marquez rocked Lopez in round four. Lopez was also deducted a point for a rabbit punch in the round by referee Tony Weeks. Lopez had the upper hand from round six on, although Marquez was still dangerous. Juanma really worked over Marquez in round eight and he didn’t come out for round nine citing an injured right shoulder.

Super Six newcomer Glen Johnson (51-14-2, 35 KOs) moved to the semi-final of SHOWTIME’s groundbreaking super middleweight tournament with an eighth round KO of Allan Green (29-3, 20 KOs). Johnson dropped Green for the count after staggering him in rounds three and six, although two officials had Green ahead on two cards entering the KO round. Time was :36.
