Rafael Nadal beats Robin Soderling, advances to Wimbledon 2010 Semifinals
Rafael Nadal has reached the Wimbledon semifinals by eliminating Robin Soderling in four sets. The 2nd-seeded Nadal, the 2008 champion at the All England Club, beat No. 6 Soderling 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-1 Wednesday.
It was a rematch at this year’s French Open 2010 Final, which Nadal also won.
Before that, Soderling had defeated Nadal twice in a row, including an upset in the fourth round at Roland Garros in 2009 that ended the Spaniard’s 31-match winning streak there.
Nadal is 3-0 in Wimbledon semifinals. He lost the 2006 and 2007 finals to Roger Federer, then beat Federer the next year. But Nadal did not defend his title a year ago, withdrawing from the tournament because of bad knees.
It took four sets and in the end, two match points but Rafa is through. A fine comeback after losing his first two service games. The world No.1 now extends his lead at the top of the rankings charts.
Rafael Nadal will face the winner of the other quarterfinal match between Murray and Tsonga.
