US Open 2010 Quarterfinals: Samantha Stosur vs Kim Clijsters
2nd- seed Kim Clijsters will play against 5th-seed Samantha Stosur for a spot in the 2010 US Open Women’s semifinals. The match will be played tonight 7:00 pm ET Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Flushing Meadows, New York.
Clijsters has a clear advantage over her Australian rival in their head-to-head matchup. The Belgian Clijsters has won all the three matches played between the two, in the past.
Defending champion Clijsters has yet to drop a set at the ongoing 2010 US Open. Contrastingly, Stosur had to battle hard for 2 hours and 40 minutes against Dementieva to reach the quarter-finals. In fact, Dementieva took the second set of that match at 6-0, and that is all the more curious given Stosur’s powerful serve. However, Stosur did well to rally from that point onwards, to take the final set and a place in the quaretr-finals.
The US Open has not been Stosur’s favorite surface as she appeared six times at this tournament and never got past the second round, before this year. On the other hand, Clijsters has had an 18 match winning streak at the US Open.
