Fernando Montiel vs Nonito Donaire Boxing Fight Live on HBO
WBC/WBO Bantamweight Champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel defends his titles against two-division world champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire this Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the latest chapter of the storied Mexico-Philippines Boxing rivalry. Promoted by Top Rank, in association with Zanfer Promotions, the Montiel vs Donaire world title fight will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark, beginning at 9:45 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the West Coast.)

Fernando Montiel vs Nonito Donaire is a 118-pound world title fight which is what figfans are hoping and waiting for. Donaire is installed as a 2-to-1 underdog by the casino. Montiel will be making his fourth title defense.
Also seen in action is undefeated NABO/NABA/WBC Continental Americas welterweight champion MIKE JONES defending his titles against Top-10 contender JESUS SOTO-KARASS in a rematch of their exciting battle which took place on November 13 under the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito pay-per-view extravaganza.
Donaire (25-1, 17 KOs), a native of General Santos City, Philippines, now living in the Bay Area of San Leandro, Calif., is a consensus top-10 pound for pound fighter. He enters this fight riding a nine-year, 24-bout winning streak, which includes an IBF/IBO flyweight title knockout victory of defending champion Vic Darchinyan, and a fourth-round blasting of former WBA bantamweight champion Wladimir Sidorenko in his last fight on December 4. Nine of Donaire’s last 10 victories have come by way of knockout.
Montiel (43-2-2, 33 KOs), of Mexico City, captured the WBO title in March, 2009 and added the WBC title in April, 2010 which he won against Hozumi Hasegawa in Tokyo, Japan. He then successfully defended his titles against Rafael Concepcion on October 30, 2010, where he dropped Concepcion to the canvas twice in the second round before knocking him out in the third round. Fernando had a 10 round non title bout against fellow Mexican Jovanny Soto, on December 10, 2010 in Saltillo, Coahuila where he destroyed Soto via KO in the second round, designed to be his final tune-up before facing Donaire.

In the latest chapter of the storied México-Philippines rivalry, former two-division world champion Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs) scored a spectacular second round knockout to take the WBC/WBO bantamweight titkes of reigning champion Fernando Montiel (44-3-2, 34 KOs) on Saturday night in front of 4,805 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. It was a left hook that put Montiel on the deck. Time was 2:25.
In a rematch of their exciting battle which took place in November, unbeaten WBO #2, WBA #3, IBF #3, WBC #4 welterweight Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KOs) won a clear twelve round unanimous decision over WBC #9, IBF #14 Jesus Soto-Karass (24-6-3, 16 KOs). This time Jones didn’t punch himself out early and issued Soto-Karass a controlled, methodical beating. By round three, Soto-Karass was cut over both eyes and Jones was in command. Soto-Karass showed a lot of heart, but by the later rounds his face was a bloody mask. Jones won by scores of 115-113, 116-112, 117-111. Soto-Karass has never been stopped. Jones retained his NABO, NABA, and WBC Continental Americas belts.
