2010 Indianapolis 500 RaceThe Indianapolis 500 Race, also known as the Indianapolis 500, the Indy 500, is an American automobile race, held annually over the Memorial Day weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana. The event lends its name to the IndyCar class, or formula, of open-wheel race cars that have competed in it.

The event, billed as The Greatest Spectacle in Racing, is considered one of the three most significant motorsports events in the world. The 94th running of the race is scheduled this Sunday afternoon May 30, 2010.

Defending champion Helio Castroneves is starting from the pole for the second straight time. Since the pole winner has won three of the last four Indy 500’s, the 35-year-old Brazilian is a good bet to tie a record four career victories.

Dario Franchitti Wins Indianapolis 500

IndyCar officials have changed the order of the Indy 500 finish, moving Marco Andretti from sixth to third place.

Alex Lloyd moves down one spot to fourth. Scott Dixon moves from fourth to fifth, and Danica Patrick drops from fifth to sixth.

The top two places did not change. Dario Franchitti beat Dan Wheldon for his second Indy 500 victory.

The decision comes more than two hours after the raced ended. Video review showed three cars passed Andretti after the caution flag came out on Lap 199.

Dale Coyne, who owns Lloyd’s car, said his team would not protest the revised finish order.

Officials also flipped the order of 13th and 14th. Mario Romancini moves up one spot to 13th, while Simona de Silvestro falls to 14th.
