Two of the league’s hottest teams square off Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium, as the Colts look to match an NFL record with their 21st consecutive regular-season victory matching New England’s 21-game run from 2006-08, and the Titans try for a sixth straight win.

Indianapolis (11-0) became the first team to secure a playoff berth with last Sunday’s come-from-behind 35-27 win over Houston. The Colts gained the AFC South title later that evening when San Francisco beat Jacksonville 20-3.

With this proficient approach, Indianapolis is one win shy to break the New England’s NFL-record 21-game run. The Colts’ win streak began following a 31-21 loss at Tennessee on Oct. 27, 2008.

The Titans extend their NFL mark for consecutive victories after an 0-6 start by winning for the fifth straight time last Sunday in thrilling fashion. The Titans are amazingly back in the playoff picture, but after their woeful start they have little margin for error.

The Titans haven’t lost since Young replaced Kerry Collins as the starter following a 59-0 loss to New England on Oct. 18. Young’s latest performance was easily his best, as he threw for a career-high 387 yards and converted three fourth downs on the final drive. The offense is taking shape under Young, but the turnaround has been fueled by Chris Johnson, the NFL’s leading rusher with 1,396 yards.

The two last met in Week 5 this season wherein Peyton Manning passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Colts past the Titans, 31-9. Last week in NFL (Week 12), Vince Young led the Titans on a 99-yard winning drive, throwing the clinching TD as time expired in a 20-17 victory over the Cardinals while the Colts overcame a 20-7 halftime deficit in Houston and rallied for a 35-27 win.

Indianapolis tied the NFL record for longest winning streak Sunday, beating Tennessee 27-17 for their 21st consecutive regular-season victory.

The only other team to win that many in a row: New England from 2006-08. The Colts (12-0) can break the record next week at home against Denver.

Peyton Manning threw one TD pass, Joseph Addai ran for two scores and the Colts spent the second half protecting the lead against the Titans (5-7). It was the first time in six games Indy didn’t need a fourth-quarter comeback to win.
