Sunday Football Week 17 – Watch New York Giants vs Washington Redskins Live on FOX
Week 17 – New York Giants vs Washington Redskins
When: Sunday, 4:15 PM ET, January 2, 2011
Venue: FedEx Field, Landover, MD
Giants (9-6) vs Redskins (6-9) Preview
The New York Giants need to defeat their NFC East rivals for the sixth straight time and get some help in order to clinch a fifth playoff berth in six seasons.
New York (9-6) seemed on course for the NFC East title before blowing a 21-point lead in the final 7 1/2 minutes of a 38-31 loss to Philadelphia on Dec. 19. The Giants then could have clinched a wild-card spot last week in Green Bay, but they allowed a season-high 515 yards in a 45-17 loss.
Now, New York must defeat Washington (6-9) and hope the Packers lose at home Sunday to NFC North champion Chicago in a game that starts at the same time. The Bears, however, clinched a first-round bye thanks to Tuesday’s surprising victory by Minnesota at Philadelphia and could rest their regulars.
A Packers’ victory would render New York’s fourth 10-win season in six years not good enough for a postseason berth. Only six 10-win teams have failed to make the playoffs since 1990, when the NFL increased to six teams in each conference advancing to the postseason. No NFC team has won 10 games and missed the postseason since 1991, when it happened to both Philadelphia and San Francisco.
New York beat Washington 31-7 on Dec. 5, as Brandon Jacobs rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and Ahmad Bradshaw added 97 yards and two scores. (Source preview: ESPN)

GAME RECAP
The New York Giants got the win, but they didn’t get the help they needed to make the playoffs.
Osi Umenyiora forced two of the defense’s four turnovers Sunday, and the Giants ended the season with a 17-14 victory over the Washington Redskins.
But Green Bay beat Chicago 10-3 in a game played at the same time to claim the NFC’s remaining wild card berth, excluding New York from the postseason despite a 10-6 record.
The Giants and Buccaneers became the first NFC teams with at least 10 wins to miss the playoffs since 1991.
Rex Grossman threw for 336 yards for the Redskins, who finished 6-10. Washington went 2-6 at home, its worst mark since 1994. (Source)
