Cincinnati Bengals (10-5) vs New York Jets (8-7) Preview

Destiny is in the JET’s hands. For all the twists and turns and ups and downs the New York Jets have had with first-year coach Rex Ryan and rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, the scenario for them clinching a playoff berth is surprisingly simple. Win and they’re in, lose and they’re out.

The Jets play the final regular-season game at Giants Stadium on Sunday night against the Cincinnati Bengals, who may rest some key players after already clinching the AFC North and could meet New York again in the wild-card round.

After a discouraging 10-7 home loss to Atlanta on Dec. 20, the candid Ryan said the Jets (8-7) were “obviously out of the playoffs” before correcting himself the following day after learning the possible scenarios that could get his team into the postseason.

All those scenarios were realized, and the Jets gained control of their playoff destiny last Sunday with a 29-15 victory over previously unbeaten Indianapolis. New York scored 19 unanswered points after the Colts – assured of the AFC’s No. 1 seed heading into the game – pulled their starters late in the third quarter.

The last time the two teams met was in Week 6 last season wherein Thomas Jones rushed for two touchdowns as the Jets toppled the Bengals, 26-14. Last week in NFL Week 16, New York capitalized on Indianapolis’ decision to rest its starters in the second half and won 29-15 while Cincinnati wrapped up the AFC North title with a 17-10 win over Kansas City.

Game Recap

Rex and The Sanchise are headed to the playoffs, lucky breaks and all.  Same Old J-E-T-S? Nope, not this time.

Rex Ryan’s top-ranked defense shut down the Cincinnati Bengals and rookie Mark Sanchez efficiently led a clock-eating offense as the Jets clinched their first playoff berth in three seasons with a 37-0 victory at the frigid Meadowlands on Sunday night.

Needing a win to keep their season going, and playing in front of their frosted fans braving Arctic conditions, the Jets (9-7) set up a rematch against the Bengals (10-6) in the first round of the playoffs next Saturday at Cincinnati. (Source: Yahoo! Sports)
