Round-by-Round Fight Recap

Round 1 – Grove works the jab early to test his range. Munoz fakes as he charges in and then backs off. Munoz then eats a short knee before he resets and shoots and gets a hard-fought takedown. Grove is against the fence and eats a couple punches as he gets back to his feet. Back to the center of the cage, Grove drops his opponent with an uppercut as he charges in. Munoz clings to a leg and tries to drag his opponent to the mat while looking to recover. Munoz eats dozens of hammerfists while Grove is warned about holding the cage, and the damage is mounting. Munoz gets to his feet but continues to cling to the single leg despite the punishment, and Grove is pushed against the cage. Munoz briefly lifts his opponent, but Grove fights off the takedown. Munoz drops to his knees and resets for the single leg, but Grove delivers a few shots from above. Ref Marc Goddard calls for a restart with two minutes left in the round, and the fighters reset in the center of the cage. Munoz shoots again, and Grove briefly locks in a choke before giving it up and getting back to his feet. Munoz lands two big right hands and then shoots, but Grove locks in a guillotine and rolls with it. It looks tight, but Grove must give it up. After returning to his feet, Grove drops hammerfists as a kneeling Munoz clings to his leg. Grove looks for another choke and locks in a power guillotine that looks tight, but Munoz escapes right before the round ends.

Round 2 – Grove lands another nice shot as Munoz charges in. Munoz answers with a shot of his own, but Grove blasts him with a knee and then takes his opponent’s back as they hit the mat. Grove looks for a rear-naked choke, but Munoz tries to roll free. Grove has one hook in and then looks for the armbar as he loses the positioning for the choke. Munoz escapes, though, and takes top position and unloads a quick barrage of shots. Munoz tries to dive in with another shot, but Grove’s long legs provide defense. Munoz stays in full guard and delivers big punches to the head and body. Munoz unloads a quick dozen shots to the midsection that do damage and then postures up and rains down another shot that’s barely deflected. Back into full guard, Munoz throws more punches, but Grove defends. Munoz postures up and dives in with a big right hand that lands flush and then follows with a couple dozen more shots as Grove is pinned against the cage.
