Timothy Bradley Jr. looks good to defend his WBO junior welterweight (140-pound) title against interim champ Lamont Peterson this Saturday night December 12, 2009 LIVE on SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING 9PM ET/PT from Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa, Rancho Mirage, California.
SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING will close out an exciting and memorable 2009 with an outstanding world championship doubleheader matchup featuring two boxers in the main event who do not know the meaning of defeat — WBO junior welterweight champion Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley (24-0, 11 KOs, 1 No-Contest) and 140-pound challenger (27-0, 13 KOs) Lamont Peterson.
Bradley, who is coming off a no contest against former unified lightweight world champion Nate Campbell on Aug. 1 on SHOWTIME, is on a hot streak in the stacked 140-pound division. Bradley originally won the fight via highly controversial third-round TKO, but the decision was later changed to a NC due to an accidental head butt that opened a cut over Campbell’s left eye.
Peterson, who is one of the hottest prospects in boxing, is coming off a seventh-round TKO over previously unbeaten Willy Blain on April 25, 2009 for the interim WBO junior welterweight title. Now he has his first shot at a world title against a man that no one in the division has been able to beat.
In the co-feature, popular and devastating knockout artist Vic “Raging Bull” Darchinyan (32-2-1, 26 KOs) will drop back down in weight and try to regain his winning ways when he defends his WBC and WBA 115-pound belts against hard-hitting super flyweight Tomas Rojas (32-11-1, 22 KOs).
