Sinulog Festival 2009, the country’s biggest festival, is set to take the center stage once again in Cebu City. And Yes, we are going to Sinulog Festival 2009! It has been 3 years ago that we’ve attended and celebrated Sinulog in Cebu. That was Sinulog 2006. Pit Senyor!

Sinulog Festival is the most colorful and grandest festival in Cebu City, Philippines. It is one of the biggest celebrations in Cebu City in which the event attracts revelers and religious devotees from all over the Philippines.  Thousands of tourists also flock during the Cebu City Fiesta period.  The Grand Parade of Sinulog Festival of Cebu, the main festival, is usually held every year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu. Other activities/events are also held prior to the grand highlight like the fluvial parade, beauty pageants, cultural shows, nine-day novena, some food exhibitions and a whole lot more.

Sinulog is prayer dance ritual characterized by the movement of two steps forward and one step backward imitating the rush of the river, hence, its name.If you want to know  the usual chant that you get to hear during the annual Cebu Sinulog Festival and want to celebrate it by your own, here it is “Sinulog, Syagit ug Kusog! Pit Senyor! Pit Senyor! Tanan magsaulog!” (Sinulog, shout out loud! Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let’s all celebrate).

Last year’s Sinulog Festival Free Interpretation Category Champion, Lumad Basakanon have actually confirmed and will be back in Sinulog Festival 2009.

While we still have 2 weeks before the Sinulog Festival Grand Parade, book your hotel rooms, inns and pension houses now as it is very hard to find a room to stay during the Sinulog Festival 2009 in Cebu, even 1 to 2 months before the event, some hotels are already reserved and fully booked. Before I forgot, if you want to go with the Grand Parade, just make sure to use your most comfortable footwear so that you can walk, walk, walk, walk and walk without complaining that your foot hurts. Prepare and  fully charge your digital cameras or DSLR so that you can capture the event smoothly.
