NFL Playoff Scenario 2009-2010

With the 2009 NFL regular season ended Sunday night January 3, 2010, NFL playoffs is here and Super Bowl XLIV (44) follows a month after. After the Week 17 NFL games, the NFC playoff picture is set, and also the AFC.  The final AFC seedings has been settled and wrapped up by the Jets beating the Bengals 37-0 in the Sunday night game. The Jets finished as No. 5 seed and are in, the Texans are out.

Here’s where we currently stand in both conferences:

In the NFC …

  • New Orleans and Minnesota captured the top two seeds, respectively, and the first-round byes that come with them. In the divisional round of the playoffs on Jan. 16-17, the Saints will host the lowest remaining seed from the wild-card round and the Vikings will host the highest remaining seed.
  • Dallas won the NFC East and clinched the conference’s No. 3 seed by beating Philadelphia, and will host the sixth-seeded Eagles in the wild-card round next weekend.
  • Despite losing to Green Bay, Arizona finished as the No. 4 seed and, in a rematch from Week 17, will play host to the fifth-seeded Packers in the wild-card round.

In the AFC …

  • Indianapolis and San Diego enter the playoffs as the top two seeds, respectively. In the divisional round of the playoffs, the Colts will host the lowest remaining seed from the wild-card round and the Chargers will host the highest remaining seed.
  • Cincinnati claimed fourth seed and will host the fifth-seeded Jets on the playoffs next week.
  • Baltimore, which beat Oakland, clinched a playoff berth, claimed the sixth seed and eliminated Pittsburgh in the process. The Ravens are also locked into a wild-card date with New England, which capture the third seed after the Bengals loss to the Jets.
  • The Texans are out after the Jets defeated the Bengals in regular-season’s final game.

AFC

  • Colts have clinched AFC South and AFC’s No. 1 seed, first-round bye and homefield advantage throughout playoffs.
  • Chargers have clinched AFC West  and AFC’s No. 2 seed and first-round bye.
  • Patriots have clinched AFC East and AFC’s No. 3 seed.
  • Bengals have clinched AFC North and AFC’s No. 4 seed.
  • Jets clinched playoff berth and AFC’s No. 5 seed.
  • Ravens clinched playoff berth and AFC’s No. 6 seed.

NFC

  • Saints clinched NFC South and and homefield advantage throughout playoffs.
  • Vikings clinched NFC North and conference’s No. 2 seed.
  • Cowboys clinched NFC East and NFC’s No. 3 seed.
  • Cardinals NFC West and conference’s No. 4 seed.
  • Packers clinched Playoff berth and NFC’s No. 5 seed.
  • Eagles clinched Playoff berth and NFC’s No. 6 seed.

The Wild card playoffs will be on January 9-10, 2010 while the Divisional playoffs on January 16-17, 2010.
