Miss Universe 2009 winner is Miss Venezuela Stefania Fernandez

The Miss Universe 2009 will be held at the Atlantis Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas today, August 23, 2009 at 9PM ET. It is the 58th Miss Universe beauty pageant wherein the outgoing title holder Miss Venezuela – Dayana Mendoza will crown her successor. Couple more hours from now to start the glamorous event featuring the world’s most beautiful women.

There are eighty-four (84) contestants competing for the Miss Universe 2009 title which will be broadcast and distributed globally via NBC in English and Telemundo in Spanish to TV outlets in more than 180 countries today.

NASSAU, Bahamas – Miss Venezuela was the fairest of them all, once again for the second time in two years. Venezuelan Stefania Fernandez won the 2009 Miss Universe pageantin the Bahamas on Sunday night. Venezuela, a beauty-obsessed South American country, has won the Miss Universe pageant six times.

Dressed in a flowing red gown, Fernandez embraced runner up Miss Dominican Republic as the announcement was made, and received the crown from last year’s winner, Dayana Mendoza, of Venezuela. The sparkling tiara fell to the floor at one point, as Fernandez danced in joy.

During a question-and-answer segment with the five top finalists, Fernandez said she believed women have overcome obstacles such as hitting the proverbial glass ceiling.

“I feel we have reached the level that men are at,” she said.

The other top-five finalists were runner-up Ada Aimee de la Cruz, followed by Miss Kosovo, Droga Ganusha;Miss Australia, Rachael Finch; and Miss Puerto Rico, Mayra Matos Perez.
