WordPress recommends everyone upgrade to this release. It fixes one security problem and 3 bugs.

Below is a list of the changes in detail:

Added a check for the correct post_type to
blogger.editPost
and
blogger.deletePost
(#8267).

Updates to
update_post_meta()
and
delete_post_meta()
to ensure they work correctly with post revisions and don’t create the meta on the revision instead of the post (#7925).

Protection for a very difficult to exploit XSS issue (#8291).

Fix for an XSS issue with the Atom and RSS feeds on some hosting setups ([9754], [9770]).

Note that we have skipping version 2.6.4 and jumped from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5 to avoid confusion with a fake 2.6.4 release that made the rounds. There is not and never will be a version 2.6.4. Download WordPress 2.6.5 now.

It is only been a month now after WordPress 2.5 and a new version of WordPress was released just minutes ago. WordPress 2.5.1 is now available for download. It includes a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and one very important security fix. We recommend everyone update immediately, particularly if your blog has open registration. The vulnerability is not public but it will be shortly. Important step before you upgrade is to have a full backup of your database and your wp-contents folder and upgrade at your own risk. Good luck.

In addition to the security fix, 2.5.1 contains many bug fixes. If you are interested only in the security fixes, you can download these corrected copies of wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php. Replace your existing copies of these files with these new copies.
If you download the entire 2.5.1 release, you will be getting over 70 other fixes. 2.5.1 focuses on fixing the most annoying bugs and improving performance. Here are some highlights:

Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.

Better performance for those who have many categories

Media Uploader fixes

An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7

Widget Administration fixes

Various usability improvements

Layout fixes for IE

Disclaimer : This may not work for some blogs running WordPress 2.5 but hey, this fix and workaround worked for me fine.

After upgrading to WordPress 2.5, I have not encountered problems so far regarding all my plugins except for the WP-PostViews Version 1.20 plugin of LesterChan.net for which upgrading it to version 2.20 breaks the plugin because for some reason wp-dbmanager is showing as an upgrade for wp-postViews 1.20 Widget . Anyway, not upgrading the WP-PostViews 1.20 still worked for WordPress 2.5. So don’t upgrade it to version 2.20.

So far I have been enjoying the new WordPress 2.5, but not up to now for about a week now, the image upload functionality and the inserting of image to post have not been working for me. After clicking the upload button, the login appeared (image 1) and I typed in the account. It then goes back to the upload process, after clicking again the upload button, this time “HTTP error. An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later ” occurred after the crunching process (image 2). I have tested and tried so many times uploading images to all my blogs, but still can’t get through. I have been in constant contact with my web host but still no workaround as of the moment.

So I search on Google to look for solutions and fix for this bug. I then found out that, not only me, many also encountered this kind of WordPress 2.5 image uploading and inserting bug .

Summarizing the list that i found related with this image uploading bug :

Upload progress gets “stuck”

Upload fails with an HTTP error

Upload box does not appear at all

If the upload window does appear, images can’t be managed, added or inserted into your post

UPDATE: Here is my fix/workaround to this problem:

Disclaimer : This may not work for some blogs running WordPress 2.5 but hey, this fix and workaround worked for me fine.

1. CHMOD the wp-content/uploads folder to 775 or 777.

2. Disable the flash uploader by installing the no-flash-uploader plugin. Be sure to activate it after you upload it to your WordPress plugin folder.

3. Add this line to your root domain or subdomain .htaccess file (source)

SetEnvIfNoCase Request_URI ^/wp-admin/async-upload.php$ MODSEC_ENABLE=Off

4. Clear your browsers cache

5. Then Log in to your WordPress Dashboard and try to upload and insert image to post.

I guess, this is all that you need to do. I have tried and tested this on Mozilla FireFox 2.0.0.14 and Safari 3.0.4 browsers. Another issue is regarding security risk of using
MODSEC_ENABLE=Off
 to the file async-upload.php. I am not sure and have no idea what is the effect, risk or security issue of using
MODSEC_ENABLE=Off
. And I hope, this is not a big issue affecting the whole WordPress application.

I Hope this will help you and If you are still experiencing errors following this fix/workaround, feel free to comment and I will try my best to help. Please correct me if I miss something with this fix.

It was very fast, smooth and simple. Wonder why? Because I’m just using the one click install upgrade through Fantastico at my web host account. The upgrade just took only less than 3 minutes. The dashboard looks a lot cleaner and runs a lot faster. WordPress 2.5 dashboard and layout are totally different from any WordPress has released before and they have finally put some weight into the layout for ease of use. It took me some time getting used to the new dashboard.

Regarding the issues of the plugins, good thing all my activated plugins worked as expected except for the WP-PostViews Version 1.20 plugin of LesterChan.net. He said that It still has some issues about the automatic update of the plugin using the dashboard as wp-dbmanager is showing as an upgrade for wp-postViews Widget. He warned about it by NOT Using the Automatic Plugin Upgrade in upgrading his plugins.

I have received several feedback that the Automatic Plugin Upgrade feature in WordPress is causing problem with my plugins.
I want to say that ALL my plugins currently will not work with the Automatic Plugin Upgrade feature because there is a problem with the path. It is a little difficult for me to explain it here.
The new version of my plugins that I am going to release on 1st June 2008 will address this issue. In another words, if are using 1.30 or 2.30 beta of my plugins, the problem has been solved.
So in the mean time, DO NOT use the Automatic Plugin Upgrade feature for my plugin.

So far, WordPress 2.5 looks great and will upgrade the rest of my blogs after this post. If you have a blog and still have not yet upgraded to WordPress 2.5, I highly recommend that you upgrade now.

How about you, What’s your take on upgrading to WordPress 2.5?

A customizable dashboard, multi-file upload, built-in galleries, one-click plugin upgrades, tag management, built-in Gravatars, full text feeds, and faster load times sound interesting? Then WordPress 2.5 might be the release for you. It’s been in the oven for a while, and we’re finally ready to open the doors a bit to give you a taste.
………………..
The software is basically done and stable, and could be released today, but we’d like to incorporate feedback from a wider audience before making it available to the general public. After a few days of your feedback we’ll set a final release date. Personally, I can’t wait.

At last, Pacquiao Marquez 2 – Unfinished Business fight is over now. The result? Manny Pacquiao won via Split Decision. Tere also shares her personal opinion and insights about the Pacquiao Marquez rematch fight.

My web host blocked my site for about an hour because of the traffic surge it encountered and is using above the 10% limit for cpu resources. Good thing, Eugene is kind and helpful enough in unblocking my site and allowed me to fix my site by deactivating some plugins and by using the temporary default wordpress theme for the mean time so as to lessen the use of wordpress plugins. Before my site was blocked, I have monitored that there are around 200-300 guests/visitors accessing my site simultaneously. Wow my first time to experience such surge of traffic. Had I known and change my theme, earlier before the fight, to a simpler default wordpress theme, maybe my site could have handled the surge of traffic smoothly. Just maybe

Anyways, back to blogging and back to my normal and original theme again by wpthemesplugin.com. Holy week is here. How will you celebrate it?

Even though at the time it peaked at around 300 guests/visitors simultaneously accessing my site, my web host (2007) blocked my site to lessen the burden of the server and to protect other site hosted at the server. This is the disadvantage of a shared hosting. So many sites hosted in one (1) server. tsk tsk. Overselling indeed. What do you expect? I know they have to squeze their resources just to earn more.

This is just temporary. As the time the traffic stabilizes and lessens, I will revert back to my original wordpress theme. Please bare with the default wordpress theme layout. Thank you.
