WordPress 2.6.5 has just been released and is immediately available. WordPress recommends everyone upgrade to this release. It fixes one security problem and 3 bugs.
Below is a list of the changes in detail:
- Added a check for the correct post_type to
blogger.editPostandblogger.deletePost(#8267). - Updates to
update_post_meta()anddelete_post_meta()to ensure they work correctly with post revisions and don’t create the meta on the revision instead of the post (#7925). - Protection for a very difficult to exploit XSS issue (#8291).
- Fix for an XSS issue with the Atom and RSS feeds on some hosting setups ([9754], [9770]).
Note that we have skipping version 2.6.4 and jumped from 2.6.3 to 2.6.5 to avoid confusion with a fake 2.6.4 release that made the rounds. There is not and never will be a version 2.6.4. Download WordPress 2.6.5 now.

- Bulk management of plugins.
- A completely revamped image control to allow for easier inserting, floating, and resizing. It’s now fully integrated with the WYSIWYG.
- Drag-and-drop reordering of Galleries.
- Plugin update notification bubble.
It is only been a month now after WordPress 2.5 and a new version of WordPress was released just minutes ago. WordPress 2.5.1 is now available for download. It includes a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and one very important security fix. We recommend everyone update immediately, particularly if your blog has open registration. The vulnerability is not public but it will be shortly. Important step before you upgrade is to have a full backup of your database and your wp-contents folder and upgrade at your own risk. Good luck.
In addition to the security fix, 2.5.1 contains many bug fixes. If you are interested only in the security fixes, you can download these corrected copies of wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php. Replace your existing copies of these files with these new copies.
If you download the entire 2.5.1 release, you will be getting over 70 other fixes. 2.5.1 focuses on fixing the most annoying bugs and improving performance. Here are some highlights:
- Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
- Better performance for those who have many categories
- Media Uploader fixes
- An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
- Widget Administration fixes
- Various usability improvements
- Layout fixes for IE
Disclaimer : This may not work for some blogs running WordPress 2.5 but hey, this fix and workaround worked for me fine.
After upgrading to WordPress 2.5, I have not encountered problems so far regarding all my plugins except for the WP-PostViews Version 1.20 plugin of LesterChan.net for which upgrading it to version 2.20 breaks the plugin because for some reason wp-dbmanager is showing as an upgrade for wp-postViews 1.20 Widget . Anyway, not upgrading the WP-PostViews 1.20 still worked for WordPress 2.5. So don’t upgrade it to version 2.20.
So far I have been enjoying the new WordPress 2.5, but not up to now for about a week now, the image upload functionality and the inserting of image to post have not been working for me. After clicking the upload button, the login appeared (image 1) and I typed in the account. It then goes back to the upload process, after clicking again the upload button, this time “HTTP error. An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later ” occurred after the crunching process (image 2). I have tested and tried so many times uploading images to all my blogs, but still can’t get through. I have been in constant contact with my web host but still no workaround as of the moment.
I have finally had some time to upgrade to WordPress 2.5 from WordPress 2.3.3. It was very fast, smooth and simple. Wonder why? Because I’m just using the one click install upgrade through Fantastico at my web host account. The upgrade just took only less than 3 minutes. The dashboard looks a lot cleaner and runs a lot faster. WordPress 2.5 dashboard and layout are totally different from any WordPress has released before and they have finally put some weight into the layout for ease of use. It took me some time getting used to the new dashboard.
