WordPress 2.5.1 Released

Posted under Wordpress on April 26th 2008 with 4 Comments

It is only been a month now after WordPress 2.5 and a new version of WordPress was released just minutes ago. WordPress 2.5.1 is now available for download. It includes a number of bug fixes, performance enhancements, and one very important security fix. We recommend everyone update immediately, particularly if your blog has open registration. The vulnerability is not public but it will be shortly. Important step before you upgrade is to have a full backup of your database and your wp-contents folder and upgrade at your own risk. Good luck.

In addition to the security fix, 2.5.1 contains many bug fixes. If you are interested only in the security fixes, you can download these corrected copies of wp-includes/pluggable.php, wp-admin/includes/media.php, and wp-admin/media.php. Replace your existing copies of these files with these new copies.
If you download the entire 2.5.1 release, you will be getting over 70 other fixes. 2.5.1 focuses on fixing the most annoying bugs and improving performance. Here are some highlights:

  • Performance improvements for the Dashboard, Write Post, and Edit Comments pages.
  • Better performance for those who have many categories
  • Media Uploader fixes
  • An upgrade to TinyMCE 3.0.7
  • Widget Administration fixes
  • Various usability improvements
  • Layout fixes for IE

WordPress 2.5 Bug: Image Upload (fix/workaround)

Posted under Wordpress on April 21st 2008 with 3 Comments

Disclaimer : This may not work for some blogs running WordPress 2.5 but hey, this fix and workaround worked for me fine.

After upgrading to WordPress 2.5, I have not encountered problems so far regarding all my plugins except for the WP-PostViews Version 1.20 plugin of LesterChan.net for which upgrading it to version 2.20 breaks the plugin because for some reason wp-dbmanager is showing as an upgrade for wp-postViews 1.20 Widget . Anyway, not upgrading the WP-PostViews 1.20 still worked for WordPress 2.5. So don’t upgrade it to version 2.20.

So far I have been enjoying the new WordPress 2.5, but not up to now for about a week now, the image upload functionality and the inserting of image to post have not been working for me. After clicking the upload button, the login appeared (image 1) and I typed in the account. It then goes back to the upload process, after clicking again the upload button, this time “HTTP error. An error occurred in the upload. Please try again later ” occurred after the crunching process (image 2). I have tested and tried so many times uploading images to all my blogs, but still can’t get through. I have been in constant contact with my web host but still no workaround as of the moment.

Top Hosting Center: My New Web Host | not anymore

Posted under Domain Name & Web Hosting on April 17th 2008 with 5 Comments

UPDATE: I have transferred again to a new wordpress web host, WP Webhost, last April 2009 because THC is almost every week having problems with their server even though my traffic is not that high. So far, for the 3 months I have experienced and stayed in WP Webhost, their system, access and support is superb and good. No big problems so far. I can recommend this web hosting.

I have successfully transferred and migrated my wordpress blog to my new web host, Top Hosting Center (THC). Sorry guys for the 2 hour down time. For a week of testing and exploring their control panel and talking with their support, I have decided to switch to Top Hosting Center. Yes, they are a cheap web host but they have a very friendly, helpful and great support department.

Just upgraded to WordPress 2.5

Posted under Wordpress on April 14th 2008 with No Comments »

I have finally had some time to upgrade to WordPress 2.5 from WordPress 2.3.3. It was very fast, smooth and simple. Wonder why? Because I’m just using the one click install upgrade through Fantastico at my web host account. The upgrade just took only less than 3 minutes. The dashboard looks a lot cleaner and runs a lot faster. WordPress 2.5 dashboard and layout are totally different from any WordPress has released before and they have finally put some weight into the layout for ease of use. It took me some time getting used to the new dashboard.

JohnCow.com For Sale

Posted under Make Money Online, Online Marketing on April 10th 2008 with 4 Comments

JohnCow.com is for sale, yes you read that right. The Cow as in JohnCow.com blog is for sale. I have been a reader of his blog quite some time now and he has done a great job in making his making money online blog a success in less than a year earning $2,500 per month now. JohnCow.com started last July 2007 as a parody on the popular blog of The Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul JohnChow.com.

John decided to sell his blog for personal reasons. I wonder if Mr. Cow is settling sooner to Ms. Cow down under in Australia. You can view his sitepoint auction here. All I can say is Good luck with your auction and hope for the best that you exceed your B.I.N asking price of $50K. That is a lot of Mooooney. By the way John, If you exceed you B.I.N. price, send to me the excess. HaHaHa. :D :P

JohnCow.com was initially planned as a parody on the popular blog JohnChow.com. In the process of acquiring the domain an idea came to life. Why not adapt the winning formula and amplify it’s achievements? Using the platform John Chow uses as a tribute to his marketing skills? We will keep an eye out on the Internet’s biggest moooney-makers and publish their best ideas, projects and work.
